Swine Flu Is Evolution in Action
My first reaction to this was DUH why the hell would anyone write a popular science piece on this? And then I was like ooohhhh…. right… people don’t believe in evolution and this is a very good example… ooooohhhhh….Robert Roy Britt | LiveScience
Anyone who thinks evolution is for the birds should not be afraid of swine flu. Because if there’s no such thing as evolution, then there’s no such thing as a new strain of swine flu infecting people.
For the rest of the population, concern is justified.
The rapid evolution of the influenza virus is an example of Nature at her most opportunistic. Viruses evolve by the same means as humans, plus they use tricks such as stealing genetic code from other viruses.
The strategy is what makes the flu so virulent and often keeps the microbes one step ahead of scientists who would destroy or neutralize them.

And then I got all angry and wanted to smash my head against shit out of frustration that people don’t believe in evolution when there is so much real time evidence of it in our world. And then I think of Michelle Bachman. And anyone else that I’d put in the same “Michelle Bachman” category, and I get even angrier.
And I think of Mathew Shepard’s mom sitting in the same room today as Virginia Foxx and hearing what Foxx said and what that must have been like… and I get even angrier…
And then I wish I could talk my Dad out of being a Republican. In my opinion, there is little shame in being a principled Conservative - I can agree to disagree, you know? but the Republican Party is such a farce at this point. Ugh. The moderates should just break off and heck, they don’t have to join the Dems, maybe they start their own party. Or better yet, maybe the Virginia Foxxes and Michelle Bachmans start their own party. I don’t need everyone to agree with me, but I’d kinda like for ABSOLUTE BS THAT IS NOT JUST A MATTER OF LETS AGREE TO DISAGREE etc to not have such a huge sway in our political system.
