James Burke: Connections (1978)
If you can spare about 45 minutes you should watch an episode of Connections.
As well as been blown away that educated men actually wore zip-up suits with wide lapels and flared parts and that most of us back then figured we wouldn’t make it through to the end of the century without blowing ourselves up in an all out nuclear war, your mind will be totally blown away by how many ideas can be crammed into such a short period of time.
Along with Cosmos, Connections (and the follow up series) are the best science documentaries ever produced. They were done in the days when content was considered important. When ideas weren’t dumbed down to the lowest common denominator, and viewers were not considered stupid. When somebody actually talking and conveying information was much more important than inserting an unrelated animated piece of fluff.
Then again maybe I’m just getting grumpy as I get older.
