Pope calls for a resurgence of church core values on his tour of Brazil.
Less well reported was the Pope’s attack on condom use. Obviously he thinks the Roman Catholic church’s approach to HIV/AIDS prevention worked so well in Africa he wants to bring the scheme to Brazil.
Condoms and sex education are an effective and cheap way to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS. While the RC church is reconsidering its objection to condoms in Africa it currently still opposes their use and distribution; as does the Christain Right of the US including President Bush.
As of 2006 there are 12 million orphans in Africa whose parents died from AIDS or HIV/AIDS related diseases. Is this what Jesus meant by “Suffer the children” ?
