Belivers: $4.5m; atheists: nil
The Australian Victorian state government has refused to help fund “The Rise of Atheism Convention” which will be held in March next year. However, the Victorian Government was quite happy to hand over $4.5 million, more than 16 times the amount being requested by the Atheist Convention, to the organisers of the Parliament of the World’s Religions.
The Australian Prime Mister, Mr. Rudd, has also turned down requests to open or indeed talk at the Atheist Convention. However, there is still hope of him turning up. By my reckoning the PM should be about due to make yet another “Sorry” speech in March, and we all know that non-believers are about due for a bit of acknowledgement.
