A Missing Link Found
An international team of scientists have found one of evolution’s missing links in the very body of water I look down upon from my office window; Sydney Harbour.
It’s a single-celled creature and is a type of brown algae but DNA analysis has revealed that it’s closest relatives include cryptosporidum, a parasite that can be found in water ways, and plasmodium, the cause of malaria.
“Scientists have known for some time that these parasites are related to algae,” Associate Professor Dee Carter said yesterday.
The new organism appeared to be the long sought “missing link” between the two forms of life.
