Out of Africa.
US scientists using DNA techniques have developed the most detailed maps of our evolutionary past. Their findings were published this week in two scientific papers in the British journal of Nature.
One paper reveals that human genetic diversity decreases the further one gets from Africa, the cradle of humanity. It is also now clear that Europeans suffered a “genetic bottleneck”, between 30,000 and 100,000 years ago, as a small, founding population moved into present-day Europe.
The research opens up new paths into the understanding of inherited disease and predicting health outcomes for individuals.
