Give the gift of life.
One thing atheists and theists agree upon is that when your dead you have no need for your body. So you’d think that most people would readily agree to donate their organs after death, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
While Australia has the highest rate of recycling waste in the world, we have one of the lowest rates of organ recycling in the world. It appears that Aussies would much rather burn or compost their organs when we die, then donate them to another human being to improve or even save their lives
It just doesn’t make sense.
In her article Mandy Sayer addresses this problem and argues that organ donations would increase if we had an opt-out system rather than our opt-in system. Would you support such a change?
UPDATE:
An article by Tim Richards in support of a presumed consent organ donation system. Mr Richards has been waiting three years for a heart and double lung transplant.
