Visiting Muslim students want uni classes to fit prayer times.
International Muslim students, predominately from Saudi Arabia, have asked a number of Australian universities to reschedule lectures to fit in with prayer timetables and to establish separate male and female eating and recreational areas.
At least one institution has rejected their demands on the grounds that the university is secular and it does not want to set a precedent for requests granted in the name of religion.
But given how much Australian universities depend on the money brought in by foreign students I don’t think too many Uni’s will be rejecting the petitions.
