Big Bang vs Big Clash
Physicist Neil Turok is not so sure the Big Bang model is correct and has come up with a different model and some scientists are taking him seriously.
Turok’s model is based on string theory (m-theory to be more specific). In his model there is not a singularity (Big Bang) from which space and time were created. Instead his model is based on the collision and separation of objects called branes. The separation leads to the creation of a universe.
Unlike the Big Bang model which is one singularity or creation point, Turok’s model just keeps repeating, with dark matter drawing the banes back together to start the process all over again. There is no begining there is no end.
There are string theorists who don’t agree with Turok’s model, the Catholic Church is also not happy with it. But the matter may one day be decided as Turok’s model makes a significant prediction that is different to the Big Bang’s inflationary model. Under the Big Bang model gravity waves should have being produced and there should be background echos of these, while Turok’s model doesn’t predict gravity waves. As yet we don’t have the technology to detect such waves but when we do it should put to rest one of these competing ideas.
