Is a hajab part of a school uniform?
One school solved this dilemma by air-brushing out the headscarf of one of its students in the school photo. Not really helpful.
Australia has a thing for school uniforms. I, not being born in Oz, don’t like them but my wife does. However, when it comes to headscarves and school uniforms we also disagree. I figure if there is going to be a school uniform and it doesn’t include a headscarf then they shouldn’t be allowed; where my wife is happy for them to be worn.
But once you start meddling with a school uniform where will it stop? Should Sikh students be allowed to bring kirpans, ceremonial daggers, to class? What next will believers of Odin be coming to school wearing Viking helmets? What about health and safety then?
