'We Make Our Own Heaven'
The Humanist Community of Palo Alto, get together for a few hours every Sunday in what might be called a congregation.
They discuss the idea that truth arises from reason, from science and from free thought.
I don’t know if it’s just the way the article is written, it is in the “faith” section of ABC News after all, but the group looks like it is trying to structure and behave like a Church but without a God. And something bothers me about that.
I don’t understand why these people feel they have to ape the activities of a church. If I want to sing ( if I could) I’d join a choir and it wouldn’t have to be on a Sunday with a bunch of non-believers.
I also don’t have any need to be preached to or for my kids to be preached to in a “fired-up” manner. A lecture, debate, discussion, OK, but preaching that’s not something I associate with rational thought or education.
It’s almost as if they think they will be accepted more by theists if they behave/act like them.
Anybody catch the associated TV show?
