Society is to blame: Pope
I note, with not much interest, that the Pope is currently US on his current world tour which brings him to Oz in July.
He’ll be here for Catholic World Youth Day, which lasts a week and the tax payers of NSW, no matter their religion, will fork out a total of AUD$85 Million to hold the event. On the upside the Pope is bringing along at least one dead person, who they recently dug up, to act as the main fund raiser for the event.
However, I digress back to the US. In the past few years there has come to light numerous instances of child sexual abuse by US Roman Catholic Priests who have been protected by their Bishops and in some cases the Bishops themselves have participated in the crime. Now you’d expect the Pope to say sorry. But no he blames it on the “values underpinning society” he basically says ‘what do you expect from a society that watches pornography and violence.’
I’d say what do you expect for an organisation that requires its members to deny a basic human instinct?
The Pope hasn’t presented a plan for what the Church intends to do to get rid of pedophile priests. But he does praise the US church for its efforts to heal the wounds left by the scandal; is he referring to the hush money, sorry compensation, that the Church spread around?
