Evolution's footprints in human genome precisely tracked using new approach
We’ve all heard the slogan “We have the fossils, we win”. When in fact the fossil record is one of the weakest forms of evidence we have for evolution.
Don’t get me wrong it’s great that we have any fossils at all, let alone the wealth of them that we do have. But they are still patchy. There are huge gaps in the fossil record, but what there are corroborates all the other evidence we do have for the theory of evolution.
The study of DNA has for many years provided huge evidence for evolution and the mechanisms by which it works. The comparitive studies between human and other species has being going on for many decades but it is not an easy task.
A new paper in Science describes a new method of pinpointing regions in our DNA which have under gone positive selection with greater prescision and resolution than ever before.
