Another tricky Howard ruse?
There is no doubt a number of Aboriginal communities in Australia are dysfunctional, that Aboriginal health lags that of the rest of Australians and that basic services to Aborigines need improvements. But none of this is new, it’s being known for decades and various governments from both sides of politics have tried to tackle the problem.
Now just months before a Federal election, and after 11 years in office, the Australian PM , John Howard, has come up with a plan to improve conditions for Aboriginal children by implementing race discriminatory laws.
Given Howard’s past use of the “race card” before elections, Gregory Phillips asks is this just another ruse by Howard or is it a heartfelt attempt to solve a very difficult, multifaceted problem.
