Student Who Took Religious Icon Getting Death Threats
“We don’t know 100% what Mr. Cooks motivation was,” said Susan Fani a spokesperson with the local Catholic diocese. “However, if anything were to qualify as a hate crime, to us this seems like this might be it.”

Also Catholics are trying to get PZ Myers (who writes the Pharyngula blog) fired from the University because he spoke out in support of the student.
Richard Dawkins and the Richard Dawkins Foundation are asking people to write to the University in support of PZ.
