Financial crisis forcing more women into brothels
The number of prostitutes in New South Wales (Australia) is expected to increase by almost 10% as tough economic conditions force more people into the legal and illegal sex industry.
On the other hand brothels in NSW are reporting that customers are cutting back on their spending. The revenue of legal brothels in NSW is expected to drop from $403 million (2007-2008) to around $357 million (2008-2009).
“There are less people coming [pun?] and also people who might have stayed for 45 minutes are only staying for 30 minutes.”, Helen, manager at Liaisons brothel in Edgecliff.
