Rant
Science teachers are in high schools to teach science. Science is based on facts, experiments and observations.
A science teacher who wants to teach in their classes a topic for which there are no facts, no experiments and no observations, is trying to teach something which is not science. And therefore, IMHO, is an idiot who shouldn’t be allowed near the kids in a science class.
Science and scientific knowledge is measurable, testable and in most cases repeatable. Religious knowledge is none of these things, at best it is a philosophy of life for the individual, at worst it is a force for discrimination, ignorance and intolerance.
So to say, as one tumbler said, that one is an alternative viewpoint to the other shows a total ignorance of both.
Science will never disprove that there is a god, in the same way that it cannot disprove that there is a Santa Claus. However, it will continue to show that a god is not required to explain many of the questions facing us. For those that hold religion as a philosophy of life this will pose no threat, for the majority who hold to a literal interpretation of their scriptural texts it’s going to hurt because your going to be proven wrong over and over again.
And yes all the evidence does point to the fact that life did arise from inanimate material and it took, on this planet, about 1,000,000,000 years to do so. But as yet we don’t have a Theory of Abiogenesis only a number of hypotheses.
