Hexagonal column formations not the work of Giants: Physicists.
Physicists at the University of Toronto have solved the mystery behind the strange and well ordered hexagonal columns found at such popular tourist sites as Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland and the Devil’s Postpile in California.
The researchers found that the size of the formations were primarily determined by the speed at which lava from a volcanic eruption cools.
The Giant’s Causeway had formerly thought to have been the work of the giant Finn MacCool (aka Fionn mac Cumhaill).
