This is a Tumblrlog, a virtual scrapbook, of the ramblings of an Australian Atheist (sub-class Secular Humanist). In it you will find items that amuse, excite, confuse or anger me. Just don’t take it too seriously, I know I don’t.

It hurts my head that people don’t know this.

Similarly, it hurts my head that people don’t know that New Zealand isn’t in Australia.

Oh, God. People don’t know this stuff?

It’s really not that hard to understand. srsly.

NEW ZEALAND ISN’T IN AUSTRALIA?!?!?!?!?!

No, I’m kidding, I knew that. Who the fuck doesn’t know that? I mean, that’s even more obvious that the difference between Great Britain and the UK.

I’ll Admit, I didn’t really know that until I came onto Tumblr, no one every really told me this. I was always confused though

My mom would kill me if I didn’t know this. Thank to her, I have a nice labeled globe in my head.

tbh, i haven’t seen that first flag before. ever. go america. lawl

Just like to point out that what is listed as “technically the British flag”, is the combination of the St Andrew’s cross (Scotland) and the St George’s cross (England). It does not contain the St David’s Cross (Wales) or even the Welsh National Flag (the best flag in the World in my opinion, which other country has a Dragon on their flag?). And thus some Welsh do not consider it or the Union Jack to be representative of Wales or the Welsh.

Also the United Kingdom does not include Eire/Southern Ireland as the graphic might seem to imply. Wars could get started over such things … opps that’s right they have.

Also the term Britain is incorrect. The correct term for the Island is Great Britain. There’s probably a lesser Britain out there somewhere …

BTW, did you know that the Scottish are actually Irish? The Scotti were raiders from Northern Ireland who eventually settled in Scotland and decimated the Picts (the original “Scots”). This is why the Gallic spoken in Scotland and Ireland is similar but very different to the Celtic spoken by the Welsh.

NY TIMES: "A confidential survey of workers on the Deepwater Horizon in the weeks before the oil rig exploded showed that many of them were concerned about safety practices and feared reprisals if they reported mistakes or other problems."

NY TIMES: "A confidential survey of workers on the Deepwater Horizon in the weeks before the oil rig exploded showed that many of them were concerned about safety practices and feared reprisals if they reported mistakes or other problems.":
pleaseshowmehowtolive:

GodBlock is a web filter that blocks religious content. It is targeted at parents and schools who wish to protect their kids from the often violent, sexual, and psychologically harmful material in many holy texts, and from being indoctrinated into any religion before they are of the age to make such decisions. When installed properly, GodBlock will test each page that your child visits before it is loaded, looking for passages from holy texts, names of religious figures, and other signs of religious propaganda. If none are found, then your child is allowed to browse freely.

We have copies of copies of copies of ancient Greek manuscripts, which have thousands — literally thousands — of discrepancies between them, many of which show signs of later interpolation, which is to say that people added passages that then became part of the canon. There are whole books, like the Book of Revelation, which for hundreds of years were not included, because they were deemed false gospel… Generations of Christians lived and died being guided by gospel that is now deemed both incomplete and mistaken.”

- Sam Harris (via cocknbull)

Academies Bill - Take Action | British Humanist Association

Academies Bill - Take Action | British Humanist Association:
via schbank:

What is happening?

The Academies Bill, which will radically reshape the schools system, enters the Commons on Monday 19th July. This is the first time MPs will have the chance to scrutinise the Bill in detail.

We need your help to ensure that our serious concerns related to religious Academies are addressed by the Government.

The Government says that the Academies Bill will improve education for all children, regardless of their background, giving greater freedom to schools and extending parental choice.

Yet the reality is that new religious Academies will be able to discriminate against children and staff on religious grounds, excluding those of the “wrong” or no religion. It will prevent many existing “faith schools” from ever becoming inclusive and risks exposing children to extreme religious views, including creationism.

A recent ICM poll commissioned by the BHA found that 72% of the public are concerned that religious Academies may use public money to promote their particular beliefs.

What can you do?

Please write to your MP today and ask them to raise these concerns in Parliament on your behalf. You can use our automated email system to contact your MP right now – it will only take a couple of minutes.

The Bill is being rushed through Parliament, so it’s important we act quickly. If the Government gets its way, the Bill will be passed into law within a week - so please take action today if you can.

Before you send your email to your MP, you’ll have the opportunity read more on our concerns about the Bill. For a detailed analysis, please read our Parliamentary Briefing for MPs.

You can make a difference. If MPs insist that our concerns are debated and addressed, we can help ensure a fairer education system for thousands of children.
