This is a Tumblrlog, a virtual scrapbook, of the ramblings of an Australian Atheist (sub-class Secular Humanist). In it you will find items that amuse, excite, confuse or anger me. Just don’t take it too seriously, I know I don’t.

Trijicon, a deeply religious Michigan company that sells military hardware, supplies gun-sights to the US, British, Australian and New Zealand military, has for years put encoded biblical inscriptions on its gun-sights. Now due to criticism from home and abroad their will now supply military organizations with kits to remove them.

Amazon Opens Kindle To Third Party App Developers

Amazon Opens Kindle To Third Party App Developers:
Amazon will soon release a development kit for the Kindle.
How much life could you find in One Cubic Foot?

Edward O. Wilson:

Life at the ground level is not just a random mix of species, not an interspersion of fungi, bacteria, worms, ants, and all the rest. The species of each group are strictly stratified by depth. In passing from just above the surface on down, the conditions of the microenvironment change gradually but dramatically. Inch by inch there are shifts in light and temperature, the size of the cavities, the chemistry of the air, soil, or water, the kind of food available, and the species of organisms. The combination of these properties, down to a microscopic level, defines the surface ecosystem.

The goal for the Encyclopedia of Life is to create a page for each species on earth.

David Tryse has created a Google Earth Tour that illustrates the amount of CO2 that we humans have been putting out since the beginning of the industrial revolution and how this compares with the atmosphere; surprise how small the atmosphere is when you compress it a ball at sea level pressure.

If you have Google Earth installed on your machine click on the link to load the tour.

Ah, they have modesty toggles (via utilikilts)

Ah, they have modesty toggles (via utilikilts)

American made Utilikilts

It’s a one man, Canadian comedian Rick Miller, show: a re-imagining of Macbeth with the Simpsons’ characters doing the various roles; all voice by Miller. Hilarious and an amazing performance by Miller. Even my wife, who is not a Simpsons fan, enjoyed it.

azspot:
